Wat is het verschil tussen de Pigeon update en Venice update van Google?
Google gebruikt meer dan 200 factoren waarmee ze een website indexeren in hun zoekmachine. Deze factoren wijzigen regelmatig en worden bijgestuurd met zogenaamde Google updates.
In juli 2014 lanceerde Google een nieuwe Google update, genaamd de Pigeon update!
De Pigeon update heeft invloed op de lokale zoekresultaten wat ook al eerder het geval was bij de Venice update van Google. In onderstaand artikel licht ik de verschillen van beide updates toe en geef ik aan hoe je invloed hebt op de factoren.
Wat is de Pigeon update
De Pigeon update zorgt dat lokale zoekresultaten beter in beeld komen. De traditionele ranking factoren, waarbij on-page factoren een belangrijke rol bepalen, worden sterker aangevuld met de verwijzingen van andere websites met recensies en microdata.
Wat is de Venice update
De Venice update zorgt dat resultaten meer gericht zijn op de locatie waar vandaan je zoekt of je zoekvraag target. Je target een zoekvraag door er een stad bij te zetten, bijvoorbeeld “restaurant Breda”. 20% van alle zoekvragen hebben een regionale intentie, waardoor Google de regionale resultaten voorrang geeft.
Vroeger werd de locatie van de zoekvraag al bepaald aan de hand van het land waarin je zat, tegenwoordig is dit de stad waarin je zoekt. Dit doet Google onder andere aan de hand van het IP adres waar vandaan je zoekt.
Wat is het verschil?
Beide updates zorgen dus dat zoekresultaten beter op lokale gebruikers gericht zijn. Het verschil is dat de Peguin update kijkt naar verwijzende websites en data die te vinden op andere websites zoals recensies.
Dit doet Google door de rich snippets te gebruiken van die websites. Rich snippets zijn HTML-codes op de website die gestructureerd aangeven waar bijvoorbeeld het adres van een bedrijf staat. Deze data gebruikt Google om de plaats van een bedrijf te bepalen.
De Venice update kijkt vooral naar de eigenschappen van de website. Ze kijken naar de locatie van de webserver om het land te bepalen, de GEO-tag, geo-sitemap en KML bestanden voor de locatie van het bedrijf en natuurlijk alle on-page factoren zoals adresgegevens, plaatsen die in de tekst genoemd worden.
Wat kan je hier aan doen en waar moet je rekening mee houden?
Met beide updates kan je website hoger of lager gaan scoren tussen de zoekresultaten. Hieronder enkele tips om goed te blijven scoren na de Pigeon update.
Verwijzingen van recensie website
Wanneer je nog niet veel recensies van je restaurant hebt, dan is het goed om hier aan te werken. Geef bijvoorbeeld iedereen die een recensie plaatst korting op de volgende bestelling. Hiervoor hoeven ze alleen de recensie te laten zien aan je bedrijf, waardoor je het aantal negatieve recensies ook beperkt. De verwijzingen van de recensie websites op basis van bezoekers uit de buurt, zorgen ervoor dat je bedrijf hoger in de zoekmachine komt.
Werk aan open data
Bedrijfsgidsen zoals Gouden Gids & Yelp maken gebruik van aangeleverde data en presenteren deze in rich snippets. Het is goed om je eigen bedrijf hier goed op in te richten en door zelf rich snippets op je website te gebruiken.
Wanneer heeft dit invloed op Nederlandse websites?
Op dit moment is de Pigeon update alleen in Amerika uitgerold en is nog niet bekend wanneer deze naar Europa komt. De meeste updates worden na enkele verbeteringen ook doorgevoerd in Europa, dus ik verwacht dat we het komende jaar weer veel verschillen gaan krijgen in zoekresultaten.
